Short Fiction Films

Of course we were inundated by lockdown films. And selected just two - a somewhat self-destructive crazy ride (Everything Go Round) and a story of uncontrollable horniness (Puss). Nevertheless we haven’t quite managed to escape a sense of imprisonment. This year’s program focuses on enclosed spaces, often oppressive or internalised. Still, not a single film here is not funny, be it in the quasi-surrealist absurdity of Flora, the ironic use of the clichés of the musical in Stuffed or the extreme overkill of Bad Hair. We are left wondering, however, if our laughter may be tinged with despair as we look away from a world in flames. This is fine.
