In Alphabet City, a section of Lower East Side Manhattan, war rages between the gangs of Brazilian dealer Rita La Punta and her latino adversaries. Things quickly spiral out of control. Paul Morrissey relies mostly on unprofessional actors, shooting in the actual buildings of the run-down New York neighborhood, to deliver this tacky and brutal Oedipian (melo)drama. Beyond fiction, Mixed Blood is a reflection of the social unraveling of its times and draws a plain picture of the miserable living conditions of the underprivileged, police corruption, and the plight of underage gang members.
