In the presence of Kier-La Janisse

Saturday 23, 14:00, Cinéma Bellevaux

This lengthy documentary will make the most die-hard filmgoers go dizzy. Kier-La Janisse immerses herself body and soul into the history of Folk Horror, starting with what she calls the Unholy Trilogy: The Witchfinder General (Michael Reeves, 1968), Blood on Satan’s Claw (Piers Haggard, 1971) and The Wicker Man (Robin Hardy, 1973). From here, she covers more than 200 films of witchcraft, ancestral beliefs, satanic rites and pagan cults, up to Ari Aster’s recent Midsommar (2019), covering five decades of horror movies with unexpected social subtexts, reaping a few distinctions at prestigious festivals along the way, such as SXSW or Fantasia. No less!
