Attila Faravelli

Attila Faravelli captures mono field recordings, which he plays back on one speaker only. He uses a Nagra III mono reel-to-reel and a single high quality omnidirectional microphone. He uses the same tape machine both for field recording and playing live. He won’t bother with explanations. But you could say using one speaker forces the listener toward a slightly different sonic awareness, more vertical, less horizontal. Without the recreation of a fake sense of space, the recorded sound’s roughness is enhanced, as is the relationship between the loudspeaker and the specific space where it is played.
