Escape-ism

A cheeky, anti-establishment dandy who has been a figure of the Washington punk rock scene for three decades, Ian Svenonius has imposed his critique of traditional rock n’ roll bands and his anti-authoritarianism in various projects (The Make-Up, Chain and the Gang, Nation of Ulysses...) with deep and scintillating charm. Started as a solo project and now pursued as a duo with film director and musician Alexandra Cabral, Escape-ism is his latest endeavour. It casts the spell of minimalist post-punk, strongly evoking spectres of Suicide or an indolent Jonathan Richman.
