As a military coup looms, the interests of two brothers, Selim, who has married a European woman and works for the government, and Hussain, who supports dispossessed peasants, take opposite paths... By transposing the martyrdom of the Prophet Muhammad's grandson, Imam Hussain, to contemporary times, Jamil Dehlavi goes beyond hagiography to create a multi-dimensional allegory that is sadly premonitory: a few weeks after the end of filming, Pakistani armed forces orchestrated a coup d'état and set up a dictatorship.
