Beth B: War is Never Over

Beth B’s cinema explores the relationship between individuals and their bodies, as well as themes related to identity, sex, gender and power. She has identified these topics in numerous feminine films and lesser known feminist ones, using them as a source of inspiration throughout her career. Fearing these works would not be shown and thus disappear, she started gathering a modest panel of essential women-made films whose relevance and insight are as surprising as they are striking (see Bread from 1918, with its #MeToo dimension, a century before its time!). Both of these programs offer a radical view of women’s history in cinema. They share a reflection on objectification, submission and socially-imposed roles through the contextual prism of beauty, domesticity and sexuality. They seek to reconsider norms and create a new sense of identity, showing the complexity of women’s struggles, as well as their power and joy to live!
